Geneviève Jean-Bindley

Tangente

Open rehearsal of Geneviève Jean-Bindley’s work-in-progress Ne me dis pas que tu m’aimes.

Presentation of excerpts and discussion with the artists.

On stage, it’s Friday night. Bodies “under the influence” experience emotions and externalize their feelings to achieve a loss of control. This exploration of excess presents the issue by distorting reality. It lays it on thick, pulls taboos into the light, and highlights through the absurd the line that separates vulnerability and modesty.

ESPACE VERT

Geneviève Jean-Bindley grew up in Chicoutimi and developed her love of dancing during her 10 years of classical ballet training at the Académie de ballet du Saguenay. Attracted by other art forms, she continued her studies at both cégeps de Chicoutimi and du Vieux Montréal in visual arts. Obsessed by everything visual – drawings, photographs, advertising, paintings, television – she has developed her approach and acute love for the visual arts since she was very young. She never lost her passion for dance and registered at Université du Québec à Montréal in creation/performance in contemporary dance, where she received her diploma in 2014. Geneviève is a visual artist to her very core, leaning on choreography for support and the body as material. Her choreographies are a staging of harmonious and sequential images that create a unified whole. It’s not just the gesture that is almighty for her, but the gesture in the entirety of surrounding space. It is from this marriage that the sense of and interest in movement become visible and sensitive. Her choreographic creations have been presented at Zone Homa, VSLR, Tangente, Off Québec, Fringe, and Les Nuits Émergentes de Sudbury, among others.
